Over thirty-five years ago, the Cathedral Clothing Center began its outreach ministry to the Heartside neighborhood. Known then as the Emmaus Center, the clothing ministry began with the work of the late Sister Helen LaValley, OP., a long-time Cathedral member. Parishioners were asked to donate their clean, gently-used clothes for all ages. Each week, volunteers sorted and mended clothing items and distributed them from the furnace room in the basement of the Cathedral.
Today, the ministry functions out of the former Guadalupe Chapel just North of the Cathedral off Division Avenue. Twice a week volunteers distribute clothing and personal care items to 60 individuals on average who in need.
The Cathedral supports the ministry through our Samaritan collection, received on the fourth Sunday of each month, and through the generous donations of items from parishioners and community members.
