SPOTLIGHT on Degage
True worship is to work for justice and care for the poor and oppressed.
Isaiah 58:5-7 from the USCCB website, Catholic Social Teaching, Option for the Poor and vulnerable.
THE THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW
You may not know that the Cathedral has a team of nine folks who serve supper at Degage Ministries. This is a fun, loving and diverse group of people: married and single, recent converts and cradle Catholics, longtime Cathedral members and newly arrived, with birthdays in at least four different decades (see the picture on our Facebook Page or website).
You may not know that Degage Ministries is right around the corner and just down the street from us. Degage is a Christian agency whose mission reads like a quote from Catholic Social Teaching: “To reflect the love of Christ to all who come through our doors by building relationships and offering programs that foster dignity and respect.” To fulfill this mission, Degage offers meals, lockers, washers and dryers, help finding housing, help getting necessary ID, and the opportunity for 40 women a night to have a warm and safe place to sleep.
You may not know that, if you would like to express Christ’s love in a volunteer role, you can contact Degage directly through their website or contact Annika Chante at the parish office for more information.
You may not know whose life Christ might touch through you, or how he might touch you through someone you serve.
